The Gilbert Days 5k & 1 mile run is always one of my favorite races of the year! It’s a small race to kick of a celebration of the town of Gilbert, it’s held on a Friday afternoon and is always packed with kids. The whole family (grandparents, Uncle and Aunt included) attended off and on for a few years now and it’s always a lot of fun to watch the Mascot races and enjoy the festivities. This is the 4th year that I’ve done the race and it was the best so far!

This is the 3rd year that Anakin has done the race and this year he ran the whole way!! The hubby was able to make this 1 mile race this year, so they ran together. I’m going to make a runner of them after all. 🙂
My Race Recap:
At last year’s run, I was very close to running a sub 30 5k, and after the short course Esprit de She last month, I had a sub 30 5k in my sights. I started out of the gate a little too quickly but I adjusted to my pace once the crowd thinned a bit. Since it’s a familiar course (Freestone Park), I was pushing myself to hold the pace by landmark increments or by minutes. Once I checked my watch and noticed I was 20 minutes into the race, I made a deal with myself to keep it together for the last 10 minues. I was out-sprinted by a 9 year old at the end, but that’s wonderful because she pushed me even faster at the finish line (video). And look — a sub 30 is in the books!! 🙂
Next year Daisy is going to get a race bib, too! She was a little disappointed to be left out of the racing fun!
