My sister in law made her 2015 resolution to run a race every other month, so when she asked me about May races this one was a “Must Do!” for the following reasons:
- It’s in our ‘hood!
- It’s a smaller friendly race.
- It’s relatively inexpensive. $18-20 before fees increase ($13 if you are an Arizona Road Racers member), $25 on race day.
The course runs along the canal and finishes through the Riparian Preserve! It was a beautiful morning and a fun race. I loved this race last year, so I had to do it again.
The weather was on our side. It was unusually cool (72!). I tried my best to run my own race, we had to dodge some shrubbery as we headed out of the park and it was a little congested for the first quarter mile. I tried to focus on my own pace and breathing and keep it steady. I cheered for my SIL and #RunEatTweetAZ friends along the course. Once we were back in the shade at the park, I tried to push the pace as best I could. I was just bummed that I stopped my watch before it read 3.1! D’oh. We stayed to cheer for Emily as she placed in her age group! Yay Emily!
My bib number cracked me up and was the perfect kick off to my birthday week (I can’t help it, I like to extend the celebration!) “Let the song and dance start in 5, 6, 7, 8…”
