Long time readers know that the 4th discipline, nutrition, is always a work in progress over here and is where I struggle big time! We recently added a Nutri Ninja Blender to our kitchen and I was amazed that it was an easy way to get the kiddos (and the hubby) to enjoy more fresh fruits and veggies. In an effort to boost our protein intake, I’ve been sampling different protein powders and I was excited to have the opportunity try out the Amazing Grass Protein Superfood as a Sweat Pink ambassador.
There are three different flavors: Original, Pure Vanilla and Chocolate Peanut Butter. With my peanut butter sensitivity, I selected the Pure Vanilla flavor and I was so tickled when this amazing #feelamazingeveryday package arrived at the doorstep. Amazing Grass surprised us with a Prana Yoga Towel, Simply Straws ‘sippy cup’ and a reusable veggie bag. Thank you for the fun goodies!
These past couple of weeks, I’ve been adding the Pure Vanilla Protein Superfood to my smoothies in the mornings and they’ve been delicious! From the Amazing Grass website:
Our new Protein Superfood is an organic, all-in-one protein nutrition shake. Each serving promotes lean muscle, aids in digestion and satisfies hunger with providing 20 grams of complete plant-based protein, 7 servings of alkalizing greens and 2 full servings of fruits and veggies.
So far this is one of my favorite protein supplements. I love that it’s plant based, doesn’t have soy (I have issues!) and doesn’t have a lot of added carbs/sugars. I really like that I have an another option to whey protein as I’m trying to figure out what works best for fueling during training. I’ll be comparing and contrasting as my training gets serious. The Pure Vanilla does contain Organic Stevia, but I can’t taste it! Other veggie or whey based vanilla flavored protein powders I’ve tried have a really strong stevia (or other sweetener) taste (and aftertaste). The Amazing Grass Protein Superfood works well with water, coconut water, milk and orange juice.
Bananas, strawberries, blackberries, coconut water, Pure Vanilla Protein Superfood and ice!
Bananas, pineapple, strawberries, water, Pure Vanilla Protein Superfood and ice!
I enjoyed these delicious treats after masters swim and my early morning runs. I’m happy to report that I’ve been pretty satisfied until it was time for elevenses (mid-morning snack, Hobbit style) or even lunch time. #feelamazingeveryday
Unfortunately the kiddos were on to me, and they didn’t like the appearance or the taste of these smoothies. They prefer their smoothies without any protein powders or other additions (besides chocolate flavoring). The hubby is obsessing about his current protein powder and won’t give this one a shot right now, but I’m hoping to sneak this one into his mix soon! I’m looking forward to trying The Original flavor since there’s no stevia; I’m interested to see if that helps with our stevia sensitive taste buds.
