Hi, I’m Olivia!
former academic librarian on hiatus. I’m off the tenure track train to bring some balance to our family life.
Why Balancing Mommy? Like balancing a chemical equation, I’m constantly making sure that both sides of the equation make sense. I’m always in the middle. There was a time where we had three generations living under one roof. While I’m first generation there are aspects of the Filipino culture I’m still learning about. We are still balancing and learning from our separate cultural heritages. Our 9 year old (Anakin/Tater) and 6 year old (Daisy/SassySpud) keep us all busy, so helping them grow is definitely a full time job! While most of this blog is a record of balancing my fitness goals with my family life, you’ll see snippets of other aspects of our life (What you ask? More camping!? More music!? We’ll see.)
We were a babywearing, co-sleeping, and extended breastfeeding family. So far, we’ve balanced our options and we figured out what’s worked best for us.
When I started this blog I was “just” a runner. I’ve eaten my words and I’ve caught the tri bug! My biggest accomplishment to date was training for a and crossing the finish line at Ironman 70.3 Arizona (Oct. 2017).
From Esprit de She (2016):
As I’m continuing this adventure, there are a few things I’m working/focusing on:
- Releasing my hoarding tendencies. ”Let it go” is one of my new mantras (This was before Frozen was released!) Working on de-cluttering my mind, our house, and our lives!
- Updating our menus and our adjusting our diet. Seeking a better balance of healthy food and less of the easy, greasy, and sugary packaged crap.
- Making more time for exercise. I love to dance, run, and be outside. I love the way I feel when I’m active, so why I don’t get out there more?
- Carving out more “me” time. While I worked, I always had “mommy guilt” so date nights and girls nights were infrequent. I’m working on changing this!
This blog is our journey, all focused on balancing this mommy.
